Distribution - Southern Asia, Afghanistan, Papa New Guinea and Australia.
 
Other Names: Australian Red Cedar, Toon, Suren, Indian Mahogany, Burma cedar, Burma toon, Indian cedar, Indian toon, moulmein cedar, Queensland red cedar, toon tree, toona tree.
 
Characteristics: The timber is red in colour, easy to work and very highly valued. The timber weighs about 640kg/m3 when dry.
 
Working Qualities: Easy to work and very highly valued.
 
Uses: It was used extensively for furniture, wood panelling and construction, including shipbuilding.
