Other Names: American black walnut, Eastern black walnut, Eastern walnut, Gun-wood, Nogal, Nogal blanco, Nogal silvestre, Nuez meca, Tocte, Tropical walnut, Wavey black walnut.
 
Characteristics: The Sapwood us usually narrow and pale brown in colour. The heartwood varies from rich chocolate-brown to purplish-black. The wood has a fine texture and a rather coarse grain and weighs abour 660 kg/m3 when dried.
 
Working Qualities: The timber is moderately hard, tough, strong and is easily worked. It finishes well and takes an excellent polish.
 
Uses: Furniture, cabinets, gun stocks, musical instruments and decorative veneer.
